The Acolyte
Set during the high republic era Star Wars is finally promosing to step away from the Skywalker saga. A story that is being hyped as “Telling the sith’s perspective,” with an all star cast boasting of Dafne Keen, Amandla Stenberg, Carrie-Anne Moss and more this is bound to be a hit from Disney. The question of course, is will it stick the landing? Not being bogged down by a ridiculous amount of lore which seems to have impacted not only the recent movies but the Mandalorian season 3, there’s hope for a Star Wars property to be entertaining once again.
Presumed Innocent
Jake Gyllenhaal is leaning back into the strange man roles, and personally I think this is where he does his best. He stars in this apple tv drama based off of a well known novel, that was also adapted into a movie starring Harrison Ford. One of his colleagues at the DA has been murdered, and his affair with her is uncovered leading him to be placed as a primary suspect. Gyllenhaal’s ability to toe the line of sweet handsome husband, and creepy upset ex lover will prove to be the make or break of this television show, but personally I’m excited to see what his performance brings out. Will it end the same way as the movie and book? Only time will tell.
Orphan Black Echoes
The follow up to the very successful and wildly popular British show that once starred Tatiana Maslany, Krysten Ritter now steps into limelight of the spinoff show. Will there be clones? Maybe. Will there be thrilling drama? Certainly. The first season of the original show is one of the best seasons of television to exist and following it up with a show starring Krysten Ritter who has been deserving of another lead performance since the exasperated ending of Marvel’s Jessica Jones on Netflix.

Umbrella Academy
Based on the popular comic book series, the acclaimed Netflix series is finally coming to an end. Each season has been full of ridiculous gimmicks, action, jokes, and a great dance sequence. Hopefully Umbrella Academy will stick the landing, as it’s been one of my favorite strange little tv shows of the past several years. I watched the entirety of season one in college in one night, and I’ve been hooked ever since. It’s been inspirational to see how the show has adapted to Elliot Page and his transition, and how it’s balanced the truly wild and weird parts of the comics and found a happy medium of weird but not visually jarring when adapting them to live action.
Only Murders in the Building
One of my favorite comedies of recent years, the trio of Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selene Gomez is truly incredible. One would maybe think that someone, notably Selena as the young one of the trio, would stick out like a sore thumb, but the three of them work in perfect harmony. It’s an utter joy to watch Martin and Short get confused by the younger vocabulary and habits Gomez portrays, and how she occasionally rolls her eyes at them, but then the three of them always come together and work in unison. After the ending of last season where Jane Lynch’s character, the stunt double of Martin’s character, has been murdered we’re in store for another ridiculous rabbit hole of trying to determine who in fact is the murderer.
Rings of Power
A season one that had mixed reviews, I was mostly positive about the series. Adapting very select portions of Tolkien’s original text that is not allowed a direct adaptation is difficult. Amazon has thrown a lot of money at this series, and it shows in the effects and visuals. I’d be lying if I wasn’t slightly giddy about the concept of a once again “Hot Sauron” as we saw Halbrand reveal that he is in fact the biggest evil of the whole series in the conclusion of season one. From the trailer Sauron appears to be disguising himself as an elf, and only time will tell how Galadriel is going to attempt to combat him, and how Sauron will once again meddle with the fabrics of society in attempts to rule over man.
